What is the Board of Directors (BoD)?
Board Directors (sometimes called Board Members) chief roles are high level governance - that is, provide strategic guidance, resources, and accountability for our program leaders. While SAF is a more work-oriented board than many traditional/large boards, the BoD is not responsible for directly running programs (including WildFire), though we do provide direct support to the Executive Director. Being a board member is a non-paid position currently.
Board members attend monthly board virtual meetings of about 1-2 hours each; more often for some depending on the time of year and special projects (that look dang good on a resume!) such as recruiting staff, applying for grants, legal filings, infrastructure updates, defining/restructuring programs, and drafting proposals. Three officer positions (chairperson, cleric, and treasurer) involve some specialized work as well.
No matter the position, we work as a team to spread the spinning arts and build community!

The Election ProcessI. The SAF Board will notify all members of the Board Member positions that will be open in the coming year.
2. Any SAF member is able to submit a board member application or nomination! 3. The existing Board will vet the application list and present a finalized candidates list to all members. 4. The General Membership will vote on the candidates in an electronic format. The open director seats will be filled by the person receiving the most “yes” votes. This will continue until all open director seats are filled. 5. The Board positions (Chair, Cleric, etc) are then elected among the Board members. |
