Traditional, Contact, Double, and Dragon Staff
Traditional Staff
Intro Traditional Staff - Spark - Saturday 9/16 9:30 AM
Traditional staff spinning involves holding the staff in a hand while spinning, as opposed to contact staff. This class will cover basic moves such as two and three beat weaves, windmills, horizontal spinning, and turning while spinning. Come as an absolute beginner and get a good introduction, or come with some experience and clean up your fundamentals.

This class will cover several staff tosses. We will learn several traditional staff tosses and contact staff tosses, both horizontal and vertical. The class will also cover tossing staves between partners.
Pre-Requisites: Should be able to do a two beat weave in both directions with both hands and be able to pass the staff between hands. Should be able to do a contact staff wrist wrap.

We'll break down some of the classic moves (Steve, Angel, Fishtail, Halo Rolls, Conveyor) into components and explore fun variations and additions to each, and work on developing transitions and flow.
Pre-Requisites: You should be generally comfortable manipulating a contact staff. Familiarity with any of: Steves, Angels, Fishtails, Halos, Conveyors will be a plus, but not required.

The In-Between: Transitions, Non-Moves, and Contact Flow - Libby Brownell - Sunday 9/17 9:30 AM
This class will not teach you any moves. We will play with different control points on your staff and body to explore all the things you can do between and around your “moves”. We will also discuss complementary body movement and footwork. We will use this understanding to workshop through transitions, learn how to anticipate and react to your prop’s movement, and how to play fluidly in that in-between space.
Pre-Requisites: There are no specific prerequisites, but ideally you should generally be very comfortable with the way a contact staff moves, and have a repertoire of moves you can spin without thinking about too much (i.e. while holding a conversation). The more you bring, the more you will get, but we should be able to work with all levels.

We will have a lots of fun and laughs partnering up with two people and one dragonstaff. We will go over sone basic principals like: What makes a dragonstaff roll and move. We will then proceeded to move the dragon staff over the body parts of two humans simultaneous or not. Disclaimer: This might involve fun and lots of bending down to pick up the dragon staff.

Its playing with balls in ways that make you question gravity and wonder if your drink was spiked. This class will focus on the fundamentals needed to start you down the path of playing with this simple and wondrous art. Primarily focusing on one ball work but would be happy to share my love of multisphere as well.
I will have some practice toys but the more the merrier, it’s always nice to try out different sizes, weights, and materials to find the right ones for you.

Learn how to spin 1 to 4 balls in the palm of your hand. If you played with Chinese medicine balls or seen Labyrinth you know how much fun this can be. We will cover the basics from size selection, movement theory, single & double hands, all the way up to the 4 ball pyramid and beyond.
I should have some extra spheres sets but if you have several of the same size that would be helpful. 4 is ideal but 3 or even 2 can work. This is an ALL LEVELS class, we will find something that you find interesting regardless of experience level.

The Balisong or "butterfly knife" has a huge amount of interesting tech associated with it, but it is largely overlooked in our community. We will start with safety procedures and terminology. Introduce the basics-ricochets and windmills. We will introduce rollovers and chapmans. We will discuss tosses if the class seems ready. We will have loaner practice (dull) knives for those who don't have their own.

This class explores rope dart moves that use your legs and lower body to manipulate the prop. Wraps, shots and empty knots all done with the lower body.

This workshop will take you through some fundamental sexy flo work moves that you can introduce into your dancing and prop flow routines. Bonus, you’ll get a great ab workout. Please note, the focus of this workshop is “sexy”, so be prepared to hear talk about body parts in that context. You can absolutely adjust the movements learned in this class to fit your own style!

Each session is tailored to the attendees experience and can include: upright and inverted stretches, beginner/intermediate poses and transitions, and/or jam time for experienced aerialists! Crash mats, spotting, and safety (3rd) always available.
Pre-Requisites: No specific pre-reqs, but participants should use good self assessment to decide if aerial activity is accessible to them. Instructor maintains the right to refuse access to the equipment when safety is a concern.

So you think you want to be a firebreather, eh? Anybody can spew fuel and make a fireball, it takes a lot more than that to be a safe and competent dragon. This class will cover the hazards of fire breathing, breathing exercises, safetying a firebreather, and basic technique. After theory and some warm-up, we will practice atomizing with water. Please bring your own ample supply of water (at LEAST 32oz., heck bring a gallon, not kidding!) and a non-frayed cotton cloth for a wipe-rag. There will be fuel to share. Goggles are recommended but not required. Dress fire-safe if you plan on attending Part 2. Mouthwash and wet wipes/alcohol wipes for cleaning fuel off of skin can also be beneficial.
Pre-Requisites: None! Other prior fire art experience is beneficial. You MUST attend FB1 and FB2 at THIS WILDFIRE if you want to breathe fire. Absolutely no exceptions.

Those who have graduated from water atomizing with confidence and clean technique will move on to practicing with lamp oil, unlit, to get used to the feeling of fuel in your mouth. Then, weather permitting, you will get to take your first fire breath! Please anticipate by wearing fire-safe clothing. Refrain from using any hair spray, perfumes/body spray with alcohol, glitter, lip balm, etc. If you wear lotion or sunscreen, go for an oil-free variety. Specifically, avoid petrolatum. Once again, bring AMPLE water (min. 32oz) and a non-frayed cotton cloth for a wipe rag. There will be fuel to share. Goggles are recommended but not required. Mouthwash and wet wipes/alcohol wipes for cleaning fuel off of skin can also be beneficial.

The class will be broken into two sections, the first part will be a discussion/lecture format centered around the theory of fire eating, while the second portion will give you an opportunity to try it in a supervised setting.
Pre-Requisites: Fire safety class, negative COVID rapid test recommended prior to attending.
