We have some strong candidates for open positions on the board and here they are! Remember, to vote you must be an SAF member. You can sign up for membership here. My name is Liz, and I have a passion for all things flow related. I currently focus on leviwand and fiber optic whip props, and I also dabble in poi and fans. Professionally, I am a technical writer with experience in education, outreach, and health communication. I would love to combine these skills with my passion for flow arts to expand opportunities for education and connection in the spinning arts community. Mae DesTroismaisons (she/her) is a circus artist and fire performer from Littleton, NH and the proud owner of Heart & Pole Studio and Northeast Fire Entertainment. With a background in both small business and the nonprofit sector, Mae is running for election to the Spinning Arts Foundation board with the intention of contributing toward an impeccable culture of safety within the broader fire, aerial, and circus arts community. Mae is also a member of the American Circus Alliance and the Burlington Burn Club, and has recently started performing with VT firespinning troupe Cirque de Fuego. Mae continues to train as a student at New Perspectives Pole & Aerial and the New England Center for Circus Arts (where she will also begin teaching dance pole classes this winter). When she isn’t training or performing, Mae can be usually be found gardening or snowboarding, depending on the season. Anthony - Tax accountant by day and fire spinner by night, I was pushed to come to Wildfire in 2013 and never left. In the past few years I have led fire tending for WildFire. I would like to join the board of SAF to continue the spinning arts and bring in more people to keep warm by the fire pits. For Cael, the spinning arts were profoundly life-changing. As she became involved in her mid-20s with the communities that give life to the spinning arts, Cael found radical emotional healing and growth, genuine validation, profound acceptance, and a life-long vocation. The numerous stories of reparative experiences from others that echoed throughout the spinning arts community, along with her own personal “success story”, inspired her to pursue her calling as a Dance/Movement Therapist and Counselor with a focus on holistic circus and healing ourselves and our communities through moving, learning, playing, and connecting with one another as we nurture our authentic, creative, motional selves. Cael is especially passionate about networking, connecting individuals and communities to resources like spinning arts programs, and making those resources more accessible for all people, in all communities. There is nothing she would love more than to continue to make these connections and to share with the world something that has already had such a positive, undeniable and inspirational impact on so many lives. Cael is currently working as a clinical therapist for a non-profit mental health center in New Hampshire. She works extensively, though not exclusively, with transgender teenagers and people of all ages with cognitive/developmental disabilities and exceptionalities. She organizes and facilitates therapeutic movement groups for marginalized populations at numerous community resource centers and mental health agencies. For over a decade, she has been providing free intro hoop workshops for festivals (including Wildfire!), fundraisers and community outreach events in hopes of introducing others to the awe-some therapeutic power of play! Larry - In 2015 my daughter and I found a safe place where people like us could heal, grow and learn. We've benefited exponentially and she's grown up as part of this amazing community. I'd like to join the SAF Board of Directors with the goal of assuring the continuation and expansion of the programs it runs such as Wildfire, which is about providing a safe space to heal, grow and learn as much as it is about the spinning arts. It's been good to me. It's time for me to give back to it. I bring 35 years of experience in management and the service industry to this cooperative task. Voting opens at 12pm EST on 12/7 and goes until 11:59PM EST on 12/17.
